The answer lies in your mirror neurons.
Hello Audrey,
All of us have mirror neurons in our brain that cause us to unconsciously mirror and mimic the brain of the person we are interacting with. Scientists think it gave our ancestors a survival advantage because they were tuned into their tribe. That's why both positive and negative energies are contagious.
If you are negative while interacting with another person, you're likely going to shift that person towards negativity. And if you are feeling positive, happy, or optimistic you can shift them towards more positivity.
You can start the shift towards positivity by following these simple steps.
1. Assess your own vibes. Take a moment to check your own energy levels and emotions. You can cultivate a positive mindset by practicing gratitude, self-care, and positive self-talk. When you're in a positive state yourself, it becomes easier to spread positivity to others.
2. Be present and attentive. When you're engaging with someone, make them feel like the star of the show. Maintain eye contact and show genuine interest in what they are saying. It's like saying, "Hey, buddy, you're the main attraction, and I'm your biggest fan!"
3. Channel your inner kindness superhero: Practicing empathy and kindness doesn't require a cape (but if you have one, rock it!). Put yourself in the other person's shoes. Offer a sincere compliment, encouragement or support. Small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect of positivity.
4. A simple smile can go a long way in spreading positive energy. Smile genuinely and watch as people bask in the glow of your positive energy. Just remember, no fake smiles allowed; we're going for the real deal here because everyone can tell if it’s a fake.
5. Strike a pose. There's nothing to it! Your body language speaks volumes, so strike a pose that says, "I'm open, friendly, and ready to spread some good vibes." No need for contortions, just relax, stand tall, and let your body do the talking.
6. Keep negativity in check: Ain't nobody got time for negative vibes, gossip, or criticism. Negativity can quickly dampen the energy in a conversation and create a downward spiral. Instead, focus on finding common ground. Highlight strengths. Offer constructive feedback when necessary.
7. Be the cheerleader they never knew they needed. Encourage others to embrace their strengths, talents, and aspirations. Shower them with words of affirmation, root for their success, and give 'em a high-five for their achievements. You'll be their personal cheerleader, minus the pom-poms (unless you want to rock those too).
Remember, spreading positive energy is a lifelong gig. Keep practicing. Keep that sense of humor intact. Enjoy the journey as you witness the subtle shifts in both their energy and your own. Now go out there and be the magnificent person you were born to be!
